Cardboard Butler, 2014

Gotham Hotel, a boutique art deco influenced hotel in Manchester, commissioned this work. It is a life-size cardboard sculpture in the style of a 1920s hotel butler. The sculpture was built for the opening of this hotel in 2014. It was designed to welcome and intrigue the guests as they moved around the interior of the hotel. I built the sculpture with many individual features, such as the detailed silver coffee pot, tray and serving towel. The cardboard sculpture incorporates elements and details of hotel chain’s own printed newspaper, which can be seen in the waistcoat and plinth.
